Reposting this because it's still relevant.
Hey there! :y this just randomly popped into my head and i wanted to address it!
THIS GOES FOR DESIGNS AS WELL!

THIS IS NOT AIMED AT ANYONE

"[insert image here] looks like mine"
Before you go and call the person out and blow things out of proportion, ask yourself: how common is the pose/idea?
If it's super common and the pose is generic, it might just be coincidence.  Poses can't be copyrighted.  And you probably aren't the first to draw it.

"But it looks really similar."

Again, you may not the first to draw a dog jumping in the air with it's mouth open. (that's just an example)
You can only draw limbs in so many positions unless you're going for super cartoony anatomy

"If I overlay it, it's 90% the same."
Perhaps you referenced from the same photo or had the same idea in mind.  There are hundreds of artists out there, most may share similar ideas.  Stop thinking you are the first to come up with some random ass pose/idea.

However, if you do believe the image is traced/heavily, try and handle the issue privately first before you sick your watchers on the other and cause unnecessary drama.  That'll only look bad on you.

"[insert image here] came out first."
Just because you SAW it first doesn't mean it was the first of it's kind.  Just because a popular artist drew it, doesn't make all the images that come after it "copied" or "ripped off".  Stop with that shit.

"BUT THE IMAGES LOOK REALLY REALLY REALLY SIMILAR >:C"
In the long run, does it really... REALLY matter?  Someone drew the same pose you did, how big of a deal is it really?  Poses can't be copyrighted, while it may be a tad upsetting, believe me, I know, but.... Is it REALLY worth getting so bent out of shape for it?

If the person truly is copying you, all it's really doing is hurting them, not you.

"What if a "popular" artist is copying a lesser known one?"
(Thought i would add this in because ive heard of it happening and it's a good question)
This on the other hand may be harder to deal with due to how much more likely the well known artist can get away with it due to their popularity.  However, it all comes back to the first question.  Is the pose SUPER common???  Coincidences happen.  It comes down to if the person is deliberately copying the subject or not and how close the "copy" is.  Please think before you go pointing fingers though.  Ask the person privately if you're unsure.

Anyways, It seems nowadays that people who are less known are seen more as the "copy" type than popular artists are.  Like popularity somehow decides the maturity level or professionalism of an artist.  Well your precious idols can act just as childish as the people they are "accusing" of stealing from them.  Popular artists are still every day artists like yourself.  The large numbers only make you see them as being "more" than what they really are.

I understand, their art is great and you look up to them, but you shouldn't treat them as some godlike figure that is only the most wise, mature and nicest of people.  Their art can be fantastic but their attitude might be super rotten.

I'd keep going, but I dont want to ramble too much and then start contradicting myself too hard haha
i made this mostly because im tired of the "this looks like this" i see a lot like... stop and think for a second here.

But that's what I wanted to get out today.  Hope you enjoyed and feel free to give me what you think, I'm open for conversation :y

Preach this, honestly, I see many artists immediately go and post a journal and make this huge drama over just a similar picture/character.  If you see a similar design/art actually sit down and think for a sec if it's really copying/stealing and if it's really serious enough to warrant drama and the user being attacked.
